Social Media: The New Networking

Chapter Administrator Carolyn Burns Bass has started a social networking group for SITE members on Facebook. To participate, you must join Facebook, which, contrary to popular belief, is not just for college students and teens. Facebook and other social media utilities like LinkedIn, Gather, MySpace, and StumbleUpon are quickly becoming the quickest and most efficient way to get your message heard across the globe. If you would like to join the Facebook SITE group to participate in discussions and network among other members, please contact Carolyn.

Inspire With Appreciation

“Appreciation is a free gift that you can give to anyone you encounter – it is completely your choice. And each time you choose to thank someone for a job well done, you are making the world a better place.”

This is a thoughtful quote found in the book: The Simple Truths of Appreciation, written by Barbara Glanz. Julie Kellogg, the book’s editor, said it best...“Every boss in the world should read this book!” Whether you’re a boss, a spouse, a mom, a dad, or a friend, reading this book can inspire you to better yourself. It's full of great ideas on how you can choose to make a difference each and every day.

The publisher of The Simple Truths of Appreciation has created an inspirational, thought-provoking, three-minute movie that truly captures the essence of the book. To watch the movie, click on this link: The Simple Truths of Appreciation Movie. Sit back, turn up the speakers and enjoy! But don’t forget to share it with those you love, forward the link freely.

Stress Relief for Success

Successful people understand that the road to achievement is fraught with hazards. Health issues, family conflicts, unrealistic expectations and goals, cut-throat competition. The frequent overnight stays and business travel so common in the incentive travel industry can be another pitfall. All of these factors lead to stress, which experts say is the number one burn-out contributor in the workplace.

We've taken a few trips around the world wide web to find some interesting websites to help you find a balance in this wild workplace. Take a few minutes to view these websites, you might find something interesting about yourself.

If you know of an interesting piece of  travel, career, success or motivational news, send it to

Required Reading for Sales Success
The Ultimate Sales Managers' Guide by John Klymshyn

Cover ImageJohn Klymshyn has spoken at a couple of SITE-SoCal meetings in the past. SITE-SoCal Chapter Administrator and writer Carolyn Burns Bass published the following review of THE ULTIMATE SALES MANAGERS' GUIDE in Amazon.com's reader reviews.

THE ULTIMATE SALES MANAGERS' GUIDE by John Klymshyn should be required reading for anyone who represents a product for sale or for service. The principals Klymshyn present target the sales culture, but offer valuable lessons to anyone leading a team in today's competitive job market. Motativing teams, retaining the best personnel, and rewarding individuals for productivity are keys to every segment of the business world.

There is nothing secret about Klymshyn's approach to motivating teams. The book isn't filled with Klymshyn's personal advice and motivational one-liners. The strength of THE ULTIMATE SALES MANAGERS' GUIDE is its structure and organization of practical material that is doable today.

Klymshyn is also a motivational speaker who motivates from the heart, not just the mind. I've heard him speak on several occasions and each time I leave with new tools to strengthen and tune-up my business. Yet the spokes of his messages reach into other areas of my life--personal relationships, family activities, and my personal writing. THE ULTIMATE SALES MANAGERS' GUIDE contains some of the most practical, relevant, and accessible tools for anyone leading teams of people, whether in sales, recreation, or life.

New Requirements for International Travelers

The Intelligence Reform and Terrorism Prevention Act of 2004 requires that by January 1, 2008, travelers to and from the Caribbean, Bermuda, Panama, Mexico and Canada have a passport or other secure, accepted document to enter or re-enter the United States.  In order to facilitate the implementation of this requirement, the Administration is proposing to complete it in phases following a proposed timeline, which will be published in the Federal Register in the near future.

In the proposed implementation plan, which is subject to a period of initial public comment, the Initiative will be rolled out in phases, providing as much advance notice as possible to the affected public to enable them to meet the terms of the new guidelines. The proposed timeline will be as follows:

  • December 31, 2006 - Requirement applied to all air and sea travel to or from Canada, Mexico, Central and South America, the Caribbean, and Bermuda.
  • December 31, 2007 - Requirement extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.

This is a change from prior travel requirements and will affect all United States citizens entering the United States from countries within the Western Hemisphere who do not currently possess valid passports.   This new requirement will also affect certain foreign nationals who currently are not required to present a passport to travel to the United States.  Most Canadian citizens, citizens of the British Overseas Territory of Bermuda, and to a lesser degree, Mexican citizens will be affected by the implementation of this requirement.

The normal waiting period for new passports is 10 weeks with a fee of $97. However, urgent issuing of new passports will run up to $300 for one week turnarounds. Renewal fees and times still vary.
